1. How often do you play this game?
4-6hrs every day for last 18 months.
2. Do you play any other online games as well?
Played a few betas last July and August but nothing grabbed me so I`m back again.
3. Would you say that gaming is addictive? Would you say you are addicted?
Yes, last February I started to have dreams where confrontations would happen and coloured numbers would appear above the things I was fighting. Thought it odd untill the wife admitted to dreaming about tetris formations when she was addicted to that.
4. Do you play the game to escape from real life?
No, it just fills the boring gaps.
5. Is playing the game part of real life?
No, I just drop the game if I`m needed, not good when playing with other people but real life is more important. Or is that a yes because it fills the boring gaps?
6. Do you think there are boundaries between the game and reality?
Of course. Maybe I can mod my bread knife with a 15^50 and a sundering to get through the crusts now and again, my butter knife with fire dmg, now that would be cool lol.
7. Would you say that gaming helps people to become involved with society no matter who they are?
In many ways, yes. I could expand on this in length but it`s you who is writing the dissertation.

7. No. "Society" is the world we live in, hate it or love it, be in it or out of it. Gaming sets me in another world, a virtual world. Sure.

Varies. On the average weekday, 1-4 hours. Could be less, could be more. Weekend is anywhere from 1-12 hours.

Online? Nope.

I'd say it can be addictive. I personally am not addicted. I play more than I should, maybe, but I don't think I'm addicted.

4. Do you play the game to escape from real life?
Not really. I play for the fun. If I have a very bad day I might feel that way, but I don't actually play for that reason.

5. Is playing the game part of real life?
I guess "playing" it is a part of real life. Is playing basketball or football a part of real life? You play video games just like you play sports, so yes.

6. Do you think there are boundaries between the game and reality?
Of course. That's all I can say.

7. Would you say that gaming helps people to become involved with society no matter who they are?
No, I wouldn't say so. It gets people involved with an online gaming society, yes. But an actual, real life society, no.

1. Right now, maybe 2 hours a week but I expect that number to get up as winter sets in.

2. The occasional game of online cribbage.

3. For some people, yes, gaming is addictive. This dude I know actually - and I'm not making this up - he actually stopped going to work in order to play World of Warcraft.

As for myself not at all. See my answer to question 1.

4. No, I play it to kill time when I have absolutely nothing better to do.

5. Is playing the game part of real life? Well it's a part of my life, so I guess the answer is yes.

6. Of course there are boundaries between games and reality. Only someone with serious issues would think otherwise.

7. No, not at all. The antisocial person who sits at home avoiding society by playing a game all the time is not going to become more social in the real world.

2. yes, presently trying to look for a new game that has less grinds.
3. some games maybe, but any games that are focused on grinds are out of the question.

I have, but I don't let other MMOs overlap. I've played Tabula Rasa Beta and Galaxies and WoW.

Gaming isn't addictive, the endorphins released from it could be seen as addictive. However, going to comedy club for 1 hour and laughing hysterically releases 4,000x the amount of endorphins that 3 hours of enjoyable gaming releases.

At times, yes, but more of a stress release then an escape.

Umm, last time I checked, I couldn't bring people back to life with my magical abilities.... wait, what magical abilities?...

Depends on the person. Virtual Society, most likely, real society, unlikely, and probably more or less the opposite. It probably helps create a more secluded, self satisfying personality.

No. I like a good simple game like Guild Wars. I don't want to take the time to learn how to craft a power chip or gather leather or get a super mega ultra rare gem from some whack monster or whatever.

Of course gaming is addictive. I know several people who even skip school to make time for it. I, however, find it difficult to concentrate on things like this for more than an hour. When I play, my conscience always tells me that there's some other thing I should do...

If you mean playing obsessively and neglecting responsibility...no I don't do that.

Well if you play it with someone you know in real life, I would definitely say so. Otherwise, no, and if it is, it really shouldn't be.

Yes, I play the old Unreal 1 and host a few severs with it.

Gaming surely can be addictive. Imo any good game should have some degree of addictiveness to keep you interested. I am somewhat addicted. I surely can stop playing for some time but losing my account would hurt me because there is a substantial amount of time and effort invested in it.

Nope, playing games and using computers is an inegral part of my life rather than an escape from it.

THat's not possible since 'real life' is defined as the life outside of games. But gaming and being part of the gaming community is certainly part of my life.

Yes, reality and virtuality hardly blend here. 2 worlds, quite different from each other.

Gaming surely helps to build communities - around gaming. Especially in smaller game communities like Unreal 1 many players know each other and many developers work together to the the community to a new level by making all kinds of facilities that can be used by the gamers. (Mappers, programmers, server admins, webmasters etc.)

That depends upon how you define "addictive." In the sense of "it tends to lead people to spending a whole lot of time doing it," absolutely so. In the sense of "it tends to lead people to do it so much that it's physically harmful to them and/or causes withdrawal symptoms if they try to quit and/or causes them to neglect other non-gaming things that should be more important," yes, but only rarely. Of course I don't see myself as addicted. But then again, most addicts don't see themselves as addicted, so I'm singularly unqualified to answer that question.

Again, this question is a bit vague.
As best I understand the question, the answer is no. The level of social interaction is usually pretty superficial, and it can be taken to a pretty minimum extreme ("glf." "lfg." "rdy?" "rdy." <kill monsters in silence>). The Hero+Henchmen system in GW allows one to take misanthropy to a greater level than most other games and avoid people almost entirely if one wishes. I don't think gaming forces, or even encourages, people to be more social than they otherwise would be. (But, on the flip side, I don't think the opposite is true either. The designers have done a pretty good job of allowing people to be as social as they want to be in-game.)

I think they can help you to upgrade your interaction with other people, because you are forced to "do" with other people in game to be successful in it.

Gaming surely can be addictive. Imo any good game should have some degree of addictiveness to keep you interested. I am somewhat addicted. I surely can stop playing for some time but losing my account would hurt me because there is a substantial amount of time and effort invested in it. 4. Do you play the game to escape from real life? Nope, playing games and using computers is an inegral part of my life rather than an escape from it. 5. Is playing the game part of real life? THat's not possible since 'real life' is defined as the life outside of games. But gaming and being part of the gaming community is certainly part of my life. 6. Would you say that gaming helps people to become involved with society no matter who they are? Gaming surely helps to build communities - around gaming. Especially in smaller game communities like Unreal 1 many players know each other and many developers work together to the the community to a new level by making all kinds of facilities that can be used by the gamers. (Mappers, programmers, server admins, webmasters etc.)
